In A Heartbeat Monthly Newsletter – October 2023

October marks Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness month. In the past year, we have seen two of the most prominent, public sudden cardiac arrests between Damar Hamlin and Bronny James. Fortunately, both survived and that can be attributed to being prepared. It is never a miracle or luck when someone survives sudden cardiac arrest. It happens when an AED is on site, bystanders are trained, and an emergency action plan is in place. Although both of these events happened on a high level of athletics, we can save more lives across all levels of sport by being prepared! Please reach out to us with any questions about how your school, business, or organization can be better prepared to help save a life!

We donated 3 more AEDS this past month, upping our total donated to 273. The AED recipients this month were Theta Beta Chapter of Chi Omega at Indiana University, Bacon Academy, and the Polish National Alliance Club of Wallingford.

We were also busy with our Cardiac Screening Program this past month. We hosted two events and provided free electrocardiograms to over 450 kids! Thank you our amazing team of volunteers that made these events possible.

We believe this combination of Primary Prevention (screening young hearts with an ECG) and Secondary Prevention (helping set up complete AED programs) will help save more lives from sudden cardiac arrest!

Our golf tournament was postponed and was rescheduled for Monday, October 23. We do still have some open spots. If you are interested in playing or sponsoring, reply to this email.
