SPS counselor: ‘I can sleep at night’ knowing defibrillator in each school

The scary episodes, at age 20, led to a diagnosis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, or HCM, a pacemaker, and two open-heart surgeries.

The longtime counselor at Kickapoo High School turned 40 this week, a birthday she feared she’d never see.
